Spring Maintenance Tips

Spring is right around the corner, which means it is time for a little HOME TLC. Here are some items to do this spring to help keep your home in top shape.

  • Check your trees and branches. The snow and ice during winter may have caused damage to your trees. If you see any broken branches, have them cut down so they won’t fall and cause possible damage to your home in the future.
  • Repair cracks or damaged areas on your driveways. If you see any cracks, have these areas sealed to help prevent further cracking. Spring is also a good time to recoat your asphalt covered driveways for a fresh new look.
  • Roofs and chimneys take a pounding over the winter months. When the roof is dry; inspect it for missing, curling or broken shingles. If you’ve got a flat roof, look out for pooling water, it may indicate low areas and faulty drainage. Damaged chimney sections should be scheduled for repairs.
  • Paint! Check your painted areas around the home for peeling or deteriorated surfaces. Prepare the area and apply new paint to properly protect these areas before damage occurs.
  • If you have an older home, remove storm windows & doors. Replace your storm windows with screens and prepare to let the spring air in to freshen your home.
  • Clean and inspect your lawn mower. Getting close to that time that you will be using it again!
  • Have an air conditioner inspected and serviced by your HVAC contractor. They will be checking electrical safeties, the condensate drain, calibrating the thermostat and lubricating fans and motors. You will thank yourself the first day you need your AC and it turns right on for you!
